Responding on Jury Duty and Agoraphobia
from:To the average citizen, jury duty is strange territory. To the agoraphobic, everyplace that is not within his secured place is unacceptable territory. If you have agoraphobia and you received a summons for jury duty, do not feel bad if you have to come out with reasons and feel like making an excuse for not serving.
When you receive a call for jury duty, the following questionnaires would likely be furnished for your response. You do not have to be any more anxious than you already are. These questions are quite standard.
Responding to the summons:
· Are you a member of the armed forces?

· When you have a significant position in a business and that your leaving might put it at risk of failing.
· If you are a practicing professional in the following fields: lawyer, dentist, physician or a nurse.
· And if other citizens could be exempted for not having a car and are also unable to use the public transport, your condition could get an exemption for jury duty.
There are other means for getting out of jury duty but the attorneys in the courtroom (during the final selection process) will decide most of these.
If you are not comfortable with the above-mentioned reasons, or you feel that you do not fall into any of the categories for exemption, you can always ask for postponements or deferments until your condition is established or are cured.
